Artist Statement

Life rhymes. I was back to painting and yearning for nature.

Iceland has this enormous sky. Its always moving, rushing to and from the Arctic, Europe, the gulf stream. There’s a constant tug of war with the sun who is usually on the losing side. It’s cold, wet, green, it’s gushing with water, rain, sleet. Snow and ice in the winter. The winds are brutal. A good gust can pick up rocks bigger than baseballs. Windows are triple paned.

I like working on a hard surface, scraping into the paint, chiseling out the physical. I had some photos of trips to Iceland to work from. But not enough. Over time, I started to invent landscapes from photos in the real estate sections of Visir and Morgunblaðið. Every day, click click online. Straight to Fasteignir. Nytt i dag - new today. I’m always drawn to the north, especially Eyjafjörður.

I love Iceland.
